The Sandestin Foundation for Kids was founded in 2011 by the owners of Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, the Becnel Family. The structure of the organization allows for funds to be gifted to needy children and families quickly in the event of a tragedy. Sandestin Foundation for Kids goal is to provide support immediately, when it is needed most to children throughout the community and abroad.

Food For Thought wouldn't be able to operate without the support of local businesses like Mercantile. For the third year Mercantile remains steady in their commitment to fighting childhood hunger with Food For Thought. Corporate sponsorships, such as this one, are critical to the advancement in our progress into the community and into more schools each year reaching more students, therefore, helping more kids focus on being a kid and not on wondering where their next meal will come from.
Thank you Mercantile!!

Supported by a three-year $125,000 grant from the Emeril Lagasse Foundation, Food for Thought is launching the Full Circle Kitchen program to expand service and commitment to food insecure children and their families in Okaloosa and Walton Counties.
Offered to high school students enrolled in Food for Thought, the Full Circle Kitchen Program will bring students into Food for Thought’s Santa Rosa Beach Pantry where they will learn fundamental cooking skills from restaurant partners and local chefs.
The Full Circle Kitchen program will provide a fully functional teaching kitchen with basic cooking equipment and a safe learning environment to acquire the skills necessary to prepare a meal. Students will build upon the skills they learned the week before in classes designed around limited budgets and access to food.
“By providing life skills, education, and job placement opportunities, we will have seen these children from Kindergarten through graduation and ensured they have the skills to thrive and making a lasting impact on our community,” says Food For Thought Founder and Executive Director Tiffanie Nelson.
The grant from the Emeril Lagasse Foundation will support capital needs, operating expenses and programming efforts associated with the program’s newly constructed teaching kitchen.

]]>We had another successful year with Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation, and we are thrilled to receive an amazing donation of $240,000! We are so grateful to everyone who made this possible-- our board members, volunteers, sponsors, DCWAF and FFT staff, Jack and Candis Wilson, and all of our supporters over the years. These funds will be a huge help to start this year off as we add another 7 schools and 1,000 students since this time last year to our food and backpack program.

The Sandestin Foundation for Kids and Food For Thought share a mission of making a positive impact in the lives of children, and we are so grateful for their partnership and support. The funding from this extraordinary foundation allows us to continue our purpose and program to feed community children weekly and provide classrooms snacks for elementary students to sustain them during class so they may perform at higher levels without the burden of hunger weighing them down. We thank the Sandestin Foundation for Kids for not only supporting Food For Thought, but for making a meaningful and positive impact on children's lives in many other ways too!!

]]>A dedicated partner since FFT began, Walmart presented us with a check for $50,000 from The Walmart Foundation's State Giving Program. This generous donation will support our growth in the backpack program in the new school year as we prepare to grow our enrollment by 50% and add 6 new schools to our program. Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have committed to provide four billion meals between 2015 and 2020 to people in need. Walmart aims to reach this goal through grants to charitable organizations and hunger-relief programs, as well as through food donations from Walmart stores, Sam’s Clubs and distribution centers. We are so grateful for the continued support from devoted partners in our community, like Walmart, who is helping us to set and achieve higher goals each year.

In May 2017, The St. Joe Community Foundation awarded $20,000 to us to assist with backpack funding for the 2017-2018 school year for DeFuniak Springs area students of Walton County. The demand in Defuniak Springs has been growing with over 1,250 students in 7 schools in that area alone over the past 3 years. This donation from the St. Joe Community Foundation will help serve these schools specifically by providing them with backpacks filled with healthy food this upcoming school year. We are so grateful to receive this generous donation, which will be a huge help to fulfill the increasing number of backpacks needed during the 2017-2018 school year.
]]>Congratulations to our foundation partners at Destin Charity Wine Auction for another successful year in raising over $2.7 million to benefit 15 Northwest Florida children's charities!
